During this half term, we have been exploring space. We have studied two books which have taken us on different adventures. Firstly, we went with Baby Bear to the moon in a rocket. On the way, we met owl and learnt about why some animals are nocturnal and even saw an aeroplane fly past. After we had read about how much fun Baby Bear had on the moon, we decided to have our own special picnic on the moon. Before we could do this, we had to read and follow a set of instructions to make a jam sandwich. The most interesting part was watching a real rocket fly into space.
The next book ‘Back to Earth with a Bump’ took us around the solar system. We talked and researched about the different planets in our solar system. We had lots of fun singing songs about space. You may even want to have a go at home singing the song ‘The Solar System Song’.
We have also had lots of fun on the creative table, where we have collaged planets, created our own rockets using recyclable materials and at the moment we are working on making a 3D papier-mâché model of our galaxy. We have had SO much fun!
Also during this half term in maths we have had the tricky task of learning to add and subtract numbers. For addition we progressed to a stage of using a number line to add two numbers. For subtraction we sang songs that helped us understand what it means to take away.
