Portraits

Year 1

Both Year 1 classes have been learning about portraiture.

The project began with the children looking at and discussing the artwork of Pablo Picasso.  Together, with artist-in-residence Andrew Tims, they spoke about the portraits he created – the composition, the colours, the materials used and how the marks were made.

The children were then able to experiment with a range of media, including pencils, pastels, ink and collage, in order to create a variety of different portraits of each other, similar in style to those produced by Picasso.

The displayed artwork shows the portraits created by the children, using printing and collage techniques.
