Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Year 6
During Autumn Term 2014, both Year 6 classes read the first book in the series – Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.
The children enjoyed the book, and claimed that it was their ‘favourite’. They liked the way it was written and could relate to the characters, especially Greg, with him being of a similar age and at school.
“I love Diary of a Wimpy Kid, it’s so funny.”
“I’ve got all the books, they’re all my favourite.”
The creative process began with the children (working with artist Andrew Tims) each being given an image of an inanimate object, for example: a camera, toothbrush or handbag and then using Diary of a Wimpy Kid as inspiration, imagine their object had kept a diary.
The process involved them using mono-printing to create, an image of their object; a title for their objects diary and a short entry for their objects diary.
The completed artwork showcases a series of mono-printed collages produced in the style of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book covers.
