African Birds
Year 5
Children from 5H were reading Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale by John Steptoe.
As part of the art program at Chilwell, artist-in-residence Andrew Tims worked with the class to create artwork in response to the story, specifically the imagery that appears in the book.
The children noticed that there were illustrations of several African birds throughout the book and together decided to focus on that aspect when generating imagery.
The young artists explored painting techniques using watercolours to create their African birds, with each child choosing a different variety, including; Lilac-Breasted Roller, Bluebird, Carmine Bee-Eater and Green African Pigeon.
