Year 5
Year 5
Year 5 have had a really busy half term! We have again enjoyed the ‘Just 3 Clicks’ workshops where the children have been learning about extremism and radicalization. This has been linked to their PSHE lessons throughout the half term.
English
The children are studying how to write a story from a different culture. They have watched Pocahontas and learned about the true history behind the story and they have listened to and watched many different cultural stories to give them an idea of what they could write. The children have also taken part in role plays where they have been acting out different parts of different stories, which they have really enjoyed.
Maths
We have had a learning focus on fractions. The children have been learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. They have also learned how to convert fractions to decimals, order fractions and compare fractions. The children have worked really hard!
Science
The children have been learning about life cycles. We have looked at the lifecycles of different animals including primates, and learning how these have evolved over time.
Topic
The children have been studying the Vikings. They have been learning how the Vikings came to England and what they did when they got here. They have also been learning the reasons why the Vikings decided to leave their homes. As part of this topic, the children have also been learning about King Alfred The Great and debating whether he deserved the title of ‘Great’.
