Great Fire of London

Year 2

Children from Year 2 worked in collaboration with artist-in-residence Andrew Tims to create Tudor-style buildings on Pudding Lane during the Great Fire of London in 1666.

The project focus was to produce drawings without using a pen or pencil, and to develop the skills of children using collage techniques – drawing with paper!

The children identified that the buildings from 1666 were often made from white-washed wood with exposed black structural timber frames.  The black timber frames formed a range of patterns across the buildings (stripes, zig-zags), that the children represented in their artwork using strips of black paper collaged onto white card.

T26he final artwork includes the children’s images presented together in Pudding Lane with photographs of flames and fire interspersed amongst the buildings.
